Well-woman visits

Naturopathic Doctors are trained to perform clinical breast exams, comprehensive female pelvic exams, PAP smears, & vaginal swabs for culture.

At NRH, we are now offering these exams in a comfortable and quiet setting to promote preventative health monitoring for women.

  • What is a Well-Woman Visit?

A reproductive focused consultation that includes routine screening examinations performed in a comfortable and quiet setting.

    The Well-Woman Visit includes:

    • a clinical breast exam

    • self-breast exam education

    • a full gynecologic exam

    • PAP test and pH testing (optional vaginal swabs for Bacterial vaginosis and yeast detection)

  • Why book a well-woman Visit?

At NRH, we are passionate about women’s health. We encourage our patients to go for their routine screening and many women often avoid or delay these examinations because let’s face it… it’s not always the most comfortable exam in the world. Many women also mention negative past experiences and fear.

To make the visit as comfortable as possible, we use cotton gowns and sheets, use a table warmer, and offer warm socks for your feet. Most importantly, we give you time. Time to ask questions and learn about your body.

At the end of your visit, we offer you a cup of Red Raspberry leaf tea, which helps to soothe the smooth muscles of the uterus and calm the nervous system.

Other details to note

Well-Woman visits should be scheduled in the morning as Life Labs closes at 4pm during the week. Samples need to be dropped off after their appointments.

We do not test for HPV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).

You are responsible for taking your swabs to a LifeLabs location following your exam. It’s a smooth process... just walk in and drop off. Unfortunately LifeLabs no longer picks up samples from private medical offices.

All results of the exams will be sent to your referring healthcare provider and a positive/abnormal Pap result must be followed up with your Medical Doctor or at a walk-in clinic if you don’t have a Family Doctor.

To prevent inconclusive results, you must not use tampons, vaginal creams, salves, lubricants, douches, contraceptive (spermicidal) creams, foams, or gels and no sexual intercourse for 48 hours before examination.

Examinations should be rescheduled if heavy menstrual bleeding is occurring at the time of your scheduled visit. However, light bleeding is okay (if possible, the Pap test should ideally be performed at mid-cycle, not during menstruation but that isn't always realistic so light bleeding is okay).

The cost of the appointment and lab testing may be covered under your health insurance plan.
