What to Expect in your acupuncture appointment at nrh

  • Initial Visit

During your initial visit, your Acupuncturist or Naturopathic Doctor completes a thorough health history intake and reviews your intake forms/questionnaires. They will then look at your tongue and check your pulses (aka tongue and pulse diagnosis), which in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is an assessment of disease patterns. Each area of the tongue and pulse relate to meridians and organ systems, which will help your practitioner determine which points are to be needled.

The remaining time will be for the treatment, where, thin, solid needles are inserted into these Acupuncture points in the skin. Your Acupuncturist may also use a small laser if needling is not appropriate.

  • Follow-up Sessions

During your follow-up, your Acupuncturist or Naturopathic Doctor will ask questions related to the recent changes you have made and monitor your progress since the last visit. As always you will be able to discuss any questions or concerns that you may have.
