Common Health Concerns

Hypothyroidism

Did you know that more than 300 signs and symptoms are attributed to hypothyroidism? Because it is the master endocrine (hormone) gland it plays an essential role in many of your body’s functions including metabolism, hormone balance, growth, and energy stores to name a few. People often report feeling colder than others around them, feeling sluggish and tired, and have difficulty maintaining an optimal weight. See our Thyroid & Adrenal Health Questionnaire for more signs and symptoms.

When it comes to assessing thyroid health, ordering comprehensive thyroid blood work is very important. When asked, many people report having thyroid blood work performed, however, most thyroid screening is based on one test called thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). The problem with only looking at TSH is that it’s a very small part of the picture. TSH can be completely normal but it doesn’t mean that you don’t have a thyroid issue.

At Natural Route Health, we offer comprehensive assessments and treatments for those who are or may be suffering from hypothyroidism. During our health history intake we explore other possible contributing factors to thyroid hormone imbalances such as adrenal and sex hormone health, environmental factors such as heavy metals, food sensitivities, and immune health. Then, we will recommend any necessary thyroid hormone testing that hasn’t been performed, before getting you started on your individualized treatment plan.

Depression

It is common to experience periods of sadness or worry throughout the course of our lives, but when these feelings are persistent and interrupt your daily living, you can benefit from some outside support.

A long term plan for elevating your mood should include nutrition recommendations, supplements, and mental-emotional techniques. With natural treatments, it is common to see improvement in 3-4 months.

Increase Energy to Improve Depression

Anxiety

Dealing with anxiety can really hold you back. At work, it may prevent you from taking risks that show your value. At home, it may put a strain on relationships. In some cases, anxiety may prevent you from getting to work, or from having a relationship in the first place.

Anxiety is an unpleasant emotion that can cause physical symptoms: shortness of breath, racing heart, sweating, dizziness, and muscle tension, for example.

Constant anxiety can also impact overall health. Anxiety often leads to low energy. Digestion is suppressed by anxiety, causing heartburn, loose stools, and other digestive issues. Levels of sex hormones can be altered, causing premenstrual syndrome, sub-fertility, and other hormone imbalances.

Naturopathic treatment for anxiety can help you decrease your symptoms and get you doing the things that really matter. Your Naturopathic Doctor may recommend a combination of nutritional changes, herbal medicine, supplements, homeopathics, and, possibly, acupuncture. With natural treatments, it is common to see improvement in 3-4 months.
